Kaleen McKeeman began work as a semi-professional circus artist at age 14 with New England’s Circus Smirkus summer tented tour. Four summers and nearly 300 shows later, Kaleen began to pursue a professional career at the National Circus School of Montreal, Canada.
In 2006 Kaleen graduated as the first female artist from the National Circus School with a major in aerial straps; thus her nickname, ‘Strapiste’. Kaleen performed as a solo artist for corporate events around the world with companies such as le Cirque du Soleil, les 7 doigts de le main, and le Cirque Eloize.
Subsequently Kaleen began an intensive creative process with le Cirque du Soleil to create and perform the main character and the duo straps number for the Show, “ZAIA”, which opened in Macau, China in 2008 with a central straps rigging point reaching 22 meters. After three years in this role, Kaleen went on to win the Special Prize with her solo straps number at the International WuQiau Circus Festival in Shijiazhuang, China.
Collective projects and show creations since then have been notably with les 7 doigts de la main for the 2011 Copenhagen Fibonacci Edition and LOFT 2012/2013 which played for one year in Berlin’s Chamäleon Varieté.
